Rancho Sahuarita offers a lifestyle to suit everyone.
TUCSON – On June 21, 2006 a draft of a potential framework for the Sahuarita town center was released. The draft plan includes the community's vision for the area, a framework for development, and policy suggestions to guide the process.
Based on the report released by the Sonoran Institute, the community hopes that the town center/Santa Cruz River area will become the "civic and cultural heart" of Sahuarita, with pedestrian-friendly areas and a vibrant business presence.
Transportation will be a key issue in the proposed town center. The plan addresses the issue by recommending the development of an east/west transportation corridor that can serve as an alternative to Sahuarita Road and improve access to the town center from other areas in the region.
The draft plan also includes an emphasis on open space around the river corridor and affordable housing in the town center. The plan seeks to promote a variety of housing opportunities at a range of prices and incorporate creative, unique designs.
So what does this mean for housing in Sahuarita? The plan identifies three designations for potential housing development: rural, suburban and urban residential. These classifications are designed to provide a variety of new neighborhoods in the area – with a range of housing types and densities. The plan also recommends that housing models be unique through varied use of design, color and building features. Neighborhoods will also be configured among a vast array of trails, parks and other open space features.
The plan will be presented on July 10, 2006 at the Town Council meeting from 5:00 to 7:30pm at the Green Valley RV Resort, 19001 S. Richfield Ave.
